A Layman's Explanation of Why Macroevolution is True

I make every effort to understand the world around to the best of my ability and I trust in the scientific method, a self-correcting process to discovery and study of the observable, natural world. I think science is interesting, but I'm not a scientist. I don't have a degree in biology. I'm just a guy who finds enjoyment in interesting research. Because I'm not scientist, I don't claim the following to be great research--it's merely my best attempt to explain a process (to the best of my knowledge) to somebody who very clearly doesn't understand what it is or how it works. A biologist who goes by @ProtoAtheist on Twitter proofread my work for scientific accuracy.  First, let's define some of our terms.  Evolution is a change in allele frequency in a population over time. An allele is an inheritable trait. Evolution is a bona fide fact by any definition of the word "fact." It's been observed in every Genus of life on earth. The the

Interview with @ProtoAtheist, a Biologist, About Evolution

Brendan, a biologist, goes by "Prototype Atheist" on social media challenges creationists to think critically about creation and evolution.  I asked him some basic questions about evolution and presented a few of the more common creationist objections to it. @GodsNotReal_ : What is your education and working experience? (Just to establish credibility) @ProtoAtheist: I have a Master's Degree in molecular biology and have worked for a diagnostics company as an R&D scientist for 8 years. @GodsNotReal_ : Can you operationally define what evolution is? @ProtoAtheist:  Biological evolution, simply put, is the change in allele frequencies over time in a population of organisms. Alleles are just different forms of a gene. Allele frequencies might change in a population via natural selection or genetic drift. Natural selection is when external pressures affect a population of organisms such that a specific allele or alleles become beneficial or detrimental relative to

Interview with @NancyDrewPI

Nancy had enough of the lack of humanistic values found throughout the Catholic church and when she discovered alternate worldviews other than what she had been taught as a child, she found that explaining away the suffering and corruption made more sense if there were no omnibenevolent, omnipotent, deity looking over us, and she admitted to herself that she no longer believes in God.  But she can't admit it to her everybody.  Find out why... @GodsNotReal_ : How were you brought up in religion?  What did your parents/pastor teach you and what about it did you like the most while growing up? Nancy: If it's okay, I'd like you to post an excerpt from my "deconversion" story since I've already written this up. "I was raised in a loving Catholic family, I went to Catholic school from grades K-12, and attended a Catholic university as well. Even within the Catholic community, we were kind of seen as religious freaks because we went to church every S

Interview with Jackie

Jackie commented on one of my Twitter photos to say that she hates when people use religion to discriminate or cause harm.  Assuming she was an atheist, I replied to her, "I do too."  But she told me that she believes in God, and that she's jealous of me because I'm an atheist.  Intrigued, I asked her why?  Jackie said that she had a near death experience (NDE) and saw God during this time.  There is no doubt that god exists, and she loves him, but she's angry with him.  Why is she angry with God, and why is she jealous of atheists?  Read on... [Editor's Note: Jackie asked me to edit her responses for grammar, punctuation, and spelling because she's "not good at typing."  Her responses contain very heavy edits.  I did my best to interpret what she was trying to say.] @GodsNotReal_ : Did you have a religious upbringing?  What were your religious beliefs growing up as a kid? Jackie: My upbringing as far as religion was just being "m
